The “A Team” Program at the Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club is designed to fill the gap created when summer arrives and school programs finish, before the new school year begins.
We understand that children with Autism frequently do not “fit it” with other children smoothly, although they yearn for the same kinds of opportunities that their peers engage in over the summer. These children would receive additional support within our already established summer program design.
The “A-Team” program is designed to provide ALL children access to a fun, positive, social program during the summer months. ”A Team” members will enjoy a positive, safe, fun environment within the typical “BVBGC Summer Program” that includes the following:
- Visual supports that enhance comprehension and prediction,
- Sensory-based activities that enhance a camper’s ability to stay regulated and have positive social interactions within the park experience,
- Relaxation techniques that enhance self-regulation will be incorporated into their day as needed,
- Daily living routines are incorporated into camp activities when appropriate,
- Staff and program opportunities will support play skills, social skills and participation in group activities,
- BVBGC facilities (such as the pool and playground) offer gross motor activities that satisfy sensory needs and encourage communication and play skills,
- An open, parent friendly environment to insure a positive experience,
Willingness to incorporate individual needs and differences that may impact behavior and day to day functioning in social groups.
The A-Team members will enjoy a positive, safe, and fun environment within the typical “BVBGC Summer Program”. Trained staff will be dedicated to the A-Team members to facilitate full participation alongside peers, through the use of previously described supports. Staff and programs will support and facilitate play, social skills and participation in group activities, offer sensory activities, and encourage communication and play skills. The Club will encourage an environment that will insure a positive experience and willingness to incorporate individual needs and differences in social groups. A peer group educational experience will be offered in order to expand knowledge and acceptance of children with varied abilities. From this experience, we hope to foster and deepen relationships among our typical members and A Team members.

How much does camp cost and how do I register?
The tuition for a camp session is $500, which includes a $20 membership fee that lasts for one year. Registration packets are available in our Club office at 115 Canal Street, Blackstone, MA 01504. A copy of the child’s birth certificate is required. Tuition may be paid by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa. Program fees are non-refundable and a $25.00 return check fee will be applied. Fundraising opportunities and/or scholarships may be available.
Daily Schedule
Your child will become a member of the Blackstone Valley Boys and Girls Club. Whatever activity your child chooses to participate in, they are guaranteed the opportunity to play alongside existing “typical peer” members and practice socialization skills and form friendships. A trained adult will be available to support their social and communication needs and provide direct instruction to assure successful interactions. Activities your child may participate in throughout the day are: arts & crafts, swimming, daily competitions, fishing, dance, theatre, karate and outdoor play.
Your child will also have access to our “A-Team” room. This room serves as the meeting area before and after your child’s day is complete, as well as a sensory break room.
Registration Process
Sessions are filled on a first come, first serve basis. Once the child is registered and before the start of the program, an interview will be scheduled where parent and child will meet with program personnel. Based on the outcome of this interview, the Club will inform you if your child is accepted and if so, your child will be placed in the proper age group that fits accordingly to your child’s development, abilities, and diagnosis.
